Vonn Renovation – Award Finalist

This 70-year-old house appeared fairly neglected and literally was a time warp. The original furnace was still functioning and all original architectural elements had not been touched. The small kitchen did not have many of today’s amenities, so an apartment-style dishwasher was a blessing – as was the functional island that not only provides secondary seating, but an aesthetic and functional design element between the kitchen and dining room. The clients are just thrilled with the introduction of a newer standalone tub that gives a nod to an historic claw foot design (and comes with a functional and aesthetic wrap around shower ring).

As typical with all older homes, the rooms were very defined by walls, both structural and non-structural. The obvious choice to knock down most walls and create an open concept allowed more natural light to flow through. It also truly allowed client integration in an open concept, as standard in any smaller floor plan required in today’s day and age. The exterior refresh still maintained a certain nod to the historical nature of the area and included some tasteful James Hardie details of siding, shake and trim with a whimsical red door entry and period entry lamp. Favorable neighborhood comments continue to come on this bright and fresh update.
